Brazilica Announces Partnership with The Action for Brazil Children's Trust

Following the recent announcement of BRAZILICA, the UK’s biggest Brazilian Carnival event, which will take place in Liverpool from 15 – 17 July, Liverpool Carnival Company is delighted to announce a partnership with leading organisation Action for Brazil Children’s Trust. (ABC Trust)

The trust will work with Liverpool Carnival Company on sports, film and arts activities throughout the weekend.

The ABC Trust is dedicated to helping street children and the most vulnerable young people of Brazil. The trust is the leading NGO (non-government organisation) in the UK focused exclusively on social projects across Brazil. In its 10 year existence, the organisation has supported 22 projects, reaching over 12,000 Brazilian children and their families.

The ABC Trust gives children and young people the support, education and inspiration they need to transform their own futures. It supports local community leaders and the projects they have already established, focusing on inspiring confidence and self believe through working on arts and sports based projects, offering education and training and giving shelter, care and advice to help children and their families find a way out of homelessness.

In 2014 the ABC Trust will host the Street Child World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. 20 teams from around the world will play in a tournament and take part in a conference in which their voices will be heard as part of the global campaign that aims to secure the rights of street children around the world.

As part of BRAZILICA, the ABC Trust will give a taste of the Street Child World Cup with a series of football workshops and demonstrations. The organisation will also present a series of films highlighting the work that they do and the nature of life on the streets of Brazil. There will also be the chance to take part in an interactive arts workshop to build a cardboard favela to represent the thousands of shanty-towns that are spread across Brazil. Liverpool's Cardboard Favela will remain in the city over the course of the festival as an art installation and as a reminder of the living conditions faced by the country's children and that carnival is the one time of year that all levels of Brazil's society come together to celebrate and party.

Andrew Webb, CEO at the ABC Trust said: ‘Action for Brazil Children's Trust (ABC) is very pleased to be a partner charity for the Brazilica festival and are looking forward to helping bring some of Brazil's energy, passion and carnival spirit to Liverpool's town centre this summer. The event will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Brazil's unique culture, as well as to help raise awareness for the work that ABC's partner projects do to provide the country's street children and most vulnerable young people with the hope, education and inspiration they need to transform their own lives.’

Maeve Morris of Liverpool Carnival Company said: ‘We’re delighted to have the charity Action for Brazil’s Children on board as a partner. They’ll add a lot to the festival in terms of its authenticity and its sporting and cultural offer. It’s a great feeling to know that our festival will be creating awareness of their work in Brazil We can’t wait to get started working with ABC and hope that our relationship develops in the coming years.’

BRAZILICA will be a massive 3 day event taking place across Liverpool. The festival is an exciting expansion of Liverpool Carnival Company’s hugely successful carnival parade, which has existed since Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year in 2008 and attracted over 30,000 spectators in 2010. With irresistible rhythms, extravagant costumes, sparkling dancers and colossal floats there is guaranteed to be plenty of glitz and glamour and EVERYONE is invited to join in the celebration!

As Liverpool’s love of all things Brazilian continues to grow the links and similarities between Liverpool and Brazil are becoming ever clearer. Our mutual love of sport, celebrated footballing histories and strong sense of community spirit mean that we have a lot in common. BRAZILICA will celebrate this link and all things Brazilian when it stomps into Liverpool this July.
