ACC Liverpool showcase new exhibition complex at Liverpool Embassy

More than 70 big-hitters from the conference industry descended on the Liverpool Embassy in London to learn about ACC Liverpool’s plans to build a state-of-the art exhibition and events complex on the banks of the River Mersey.

Senior delegates from the association world, including the Royal College of Nursing and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, attended a lunchtime reception at the embassy in New Broad Street. A further party of convention and exhibition organisers from the corporate sector, including BBC Worldwide, attended an evening reception.

The events, held on Wednesday (June 29th), were designed to showcase the city as a conference and event destination and to promote the city’s plans to build the most innovative exhibition and event complex in Europe.

Also attending the events were ACC Liverpool affiliates, including Dougal Paver, Senior Partner at Liverpool public relations firm Paver Smith, and entrepreneur Mike Southon, as well as representatives of the venue's in house caterers, Heathcotes.

ACC Liverpool Chief Executive Bob Prattey told guests the new exhibition and events complex would be 8,100m2 in size and would open for business in September 2014. Plans include a sky bridge to connect it to the existing facility, making ACC Liverpool the only purpose-built interconnected arena, convention centre and exhibition facility in the UK.

He said a 200-bed four star hotel would be included in the development and the complex would be suitable for both trade and consumer exhibitions, as well as large scale national and international conferences with attached exhibitions, large scale banquets and concerts for up to 10,000 people standing.

Following the success of both events, Mr Prattey said the embassy had provided the perfect platform to promote the city as a conference destination.

He added: “The embassy gave us a unique opportunity to bring Liverpool to London and to engage with key clients and influencers, such as trade media. They were overwhelmed by the city’s ambition and by our vision to create the very first purpose built interconnected exhibition, convention and arena complex in the UK, which will be a unique and unrivalled facility in the marketplace.

“We also took the opportunity to tell and sell the story of the city’s other assets: its fantastic architecture, world-class cultural offer and unrivalled welcome.”
