Ambitious Minds secures cash from VC fund
Liverpool training and education company Ambitious Minds has secured an investment of £350,000 from the North West Fund for Venture Capital, managed by EV, to support its expansion plans.
The company, which was founded in 2009, is growing to service the increasing demand for standardisation in spreadsheet modelling, alongside its portfolio of bespoke financial training courses.
It has also identified a market opportunity in the education sector and has created an interactive game for secondary schools that provides students with the skills to have a lifelong relationship with finance.
Keep the Cash! was piloted in Liverpool schools and has since been rolled out across the UK and Ireland. The interactive board game was also a Merseyside Innovation Awards monthly winner earlier this year.
Chief executive Sean McGuire, who founded the business with director Andrew Berkley, said: "This significant investment allows us to increase our infrastructure and build on the very solid foundations that we have put in place in the past two years."
The North West Fund for Venture Capital is a sub-fund of the £185m evergreen the North West Fund that is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
McGuire added: "It is a hugely exciting time for the company as we are confident our target sectors offer great potential and we look forward, with EV's help, to growing Ambitious Minds in the years ahead."
Will Clark, EV investment director for the North West Fund for Venture Capital, said: "Ambitious Minds represents a very interesting opportunity for the Fund. It provides an opportunity to back two highly-talented managers with a track record of devising innovative, bespoke training solutions, to build a business with a twin-track strategy.
"The education sector has traditionally been difficult to crack, although we’re confident that with such a high energy and quality marketer such as Sean at its helm, Ambitious Minds will be incredibly successful in both the corporate and education markets."
The North West Fund for Venture Capital was advised by Phil Whitehurst at DWF's Liverpool office. The management team at Ambitious Minds was advised by Paul Barrow of Quinn Barrow.
