Annual Liverpool Design Festival and Show set to begin

The Liverpool Design Festival and Show kicks off in the city on Thursday night.

The annual celebration of contemporary design and catwalk fashion runs until Sunday.

Following last year’s success, the event has been extended to three full days this year and will take place at St George’s Hall.

Around 80 independent designer makers of furniture, ceramics, lighting, jewellery and fashion will be showing their work, discussing their skills and selling their creations to an expected 5,000 visitors.

Festival director Tara Badami, said: “We want to inspire and excite designers and public alike by providing a platform and a focus on the very best in contemporary design.”

This year’s event will include the premiere of the A/W 2011 collection from Claudette Joseph on the catwalk.

Ms Joseph can count Helen Mirren and Julie Christie as customers, and her latest collection combines influences and inspirations from the 1940s featuring strong lines with a colour palette of white, chartreuse, navy and soft rose.

The show will give visitors an exclusive opportunity to meet Claudette and order or buy directly from her as her clothes are not available in shops or boutiques in the North West.

Another exhibitor is Tatty Devine – Handmade in England, which is famous for its creative jewellery.

It has been commissioned to create catwalk pieces as well as high street collections and enjoys cult status in Japan, America and Australia as well as Europe
