Annual Review outlines future Vision for Liverpool

Liverpool Vision has published its Annual Review, outlining the key areas in which it will help to continue the transformation of Liverpool.

The review also highlights some of the major achievements of 2010/11 and includes an introduction from chairman, Mike Parker and Cllr Joe, Anderson, leader of Liverpool City Council.

Between April 2010 and March 2011 Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company, has, among other achievements:

• Helped to generate 775 new businesses and 1671 new jobs
• Led a successful bid to secure the prestigious Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2012 for Liverpool - the first European host of the world’s foremost enterprise conference
• Attracted more than 770,000 visitors to the award-winning Liverpool pavilion at World Expo 2010, Shanghai
• Established a presence in London to sell the city’s outstanding and competitive business offer
• Been instrumental in the delivery of Liverpool Sound City, which attracted 35,000 music lovers and delegates from 23 countries

Liverpool Vision’s strategic ambitions are also addressed in the document:

• Create a city with an outstanding quality of place for business
• Enable Liverpool to become the number one culture and visitor destination in the UK outside London
• Realise the potential of North Liverpool, underpinned by a Strategic Regeneration Framework and a focused delivery plan
• Support Liverpool’s transformation into a sustainable, low carbon economy
• Make Liverpool a beacon for enterprise, business growth and business friendliness
• Enable Liverpool to realise its potential as an international city of science, creativity and innovation
• Establish Liverpool as a top international and national investment location with dynamic trade, investment, knowledge and tourism relationships
• Support Liverpool’s drive to become a city of skilled and talented people and of economic opportunity for all

Mike Parker, chairman of Liverpool Vision, said: “In difficult economic conditions Liverpool Vision has again fulfilled a pivotal role for the city while adapting to the changing priorities of the city.

“It has been an important year that has allowed us to capitalise on our hugely successful presence at the World Expo. We are forging new global relationships and detailing Liverpool’s outstanding offer as a place in which to work, live, invest, study and visit.

“Much is still to be done to improve the quality of Liverpool’s physical and business environment to help emerging high value sectors realise their potential, to promote innovation and competitiveness and support business in creating jobs and wealth. Liverpool Vision will remain in the vanguard of this work.

“In addition, among other projects, during the next 12 months Liverpool Vision will deliver the Global Entrepreneurship Congress to Liverpool; prepare to showcase the city’s work at the United Nation’s World Urban Forum; continue to sell the city’s offer through our offices in London, China and the USA; and support the work of Culture Liverpool in maintaining our status as the UK’s most popular city for visitors outside London and Edinburgh.

Cllr Joe Anderson: “I am delighted that Liverpool Vision has continued to be very successful in regenerating the city and developing its economy and its image and following its refocus it will become even more effective in helping us to meet the challenges ahead.
