Architects success in Greater China Awards
Liverpool firm Brock Carmichael Architects is celebrating its success in a prestigious regional business awards competition organised by UK Trade & Investment North West.
The company was runner-up of the North West England Greater China Rising Star Award, announced at the Greater China Awards and Chinese New Year Dinner on Friday 3rd February at the Lowry Theatre, Salford.
The accolade is recognition of the business that the company has done in Greater China and Hong Kong since taking part in the Shanghai Expo in 2010.
Brock Carmichael now have a local presence in Hong Kong and collaborate with Oval Partnership, an architectural practice based in Hong Kong, with whom they have established a Joint Venture brand called the Octagon Partnership. This has helped them to share locations, skills and knowledge and allows both practices to bid for larger projects.
Joint projects include a paid international design competition for a cultural resort at Shilin Stone Forest in Yunnan Province, a 52 acre waterfront development in Tianjin, a regeneration project in Kunming and the Hong Kong University Auditorium project.
Brock Carmichael’s success in China has helped significantly raise its profile in the North West.
Philomena Chen, Head of Asia Pacific Development for UK Trade & Investment, North West said:
“It was an incredibly tight decision with very little between the shortlisted applicants. However we chose the companies who have successfully identified opportunities in the growing China market and used a clear strategy and thorough approach to make the most of them.”
Clive Drinkwater, Director for North West, UK Trade & Investment, said:
“Greater China continues to be of major importance on the global stage and we are sure our winning companies will be able to enjoy long term rewards and success in return for the time and finances they have invested in furthering their business interests there.”
Michael Cosser, Partner, Brock Carmichael Architects, said:
“We are delighted to be recognised in this way. We had never worked overseas before we agreed to sponsor Liverpool’s presence at the World Expo in Shanghai. It shows that the hard work we put in both before and after the Expo has really paid off. The support and advice we have received from Philomena Chen of UKTI and Jessica Zhang of CBBC in helping us to understand the market and shape our business strategy has been invaluable.”
The North West England Greater China Rising Star award is organised by UK Trade & Investment North West and sponsored by Finnair, and celebrates the companies who have achieved the most in the market despite having only three years experience or fewer in the region.
