Architecture firm’s Shanghai event
Liverpool practice Shedkm Architects was the only UK firm to speak at an international event in Shanghai focusing on housing design for the elderly.
The International Forum of Housing Design for the Elderly discussed the homes that will be needed to house the 400m elderly people in China.
Shedkm was chosen because of its design for a Housing With Care facility in Knotty Ash.
Director Ian Killick said: “Our Knotty Ash design was ground breaking in many ways, combining new low rise with existing high- rise blocks, and connecting them via a communal hub and covered street.
“It’s very modern but, as one resident said, ‘just because we’re old doesn’t mean we want to live in something that looks like an old people’s home’.”
