Enterprise Boot camp for Young people
Pacificstream have secured lottery funding to for a project which aims to stimulate entrepreneurial activity and address unemployment amongst Liverpool’s young people including recent graduates who are struggling to find meaningful employment in the current economic climate.
Director, Ray Haigh explained “Unemployment amongst young people is at an all time high and young people face unique barriers to starting a business including a lack of confidence, skills, experience, market knowledge and limited access to finance which subsequently limits their ability to develop a good business proposition and their chances of success. We have developed this project to encourage more young people to consider establishing their own business as a viable, alternative career option, making use of the skills and knowledge they have gained in education and life to date and we aim to help equip them with the skills and knowledge to boost their chances of success”.
The intention is to run an intensive enterprise Boot camp for a period of 6 months which will be delivered by a team of SFEDI accredited professional advisers and local established entrepreneurs with real life experience of running their own businesses to share knowledge and advice with the young entrepreneurs.
The project will commence with initial self employment awareness workshops and drop in surgeries at community venues to identify potential individuals to participate in an intensive enterprise programme that will include 1-2-1 tailored advice and guidance sessions; workshops on key business areas such as business planning, financial management, marketing, bookkeeping, tax etc; assistance to access funding; business coaching; and mentoring.
An experienced and compatible mentor will be assigned to each young person and regular performance reviews and action plans will be utilised to monitor progression.
Pacificstream offer a supportive environment for the potential new entrepreneurs to base their business via its Basecamp3 enterprise hub which has advisers on hand to provide support and the opportunity exists for the young people to mix with like minded entrepreneurs. A subsidy will be offered to successful applicants interested in basing their business at the facility to help them to minimise overheads in the all important early development stages.
