Lithuania looks to Liverpool for creative and digital development

Creative industry expert Kevin McManus has advised delegates at an international summit in Lithuania on the importance of establishing creative and digital clusters.

Kevin McManus, director of business support agency ACME at Liverpool Vision was invited to speak at the event by the British Council and the Lithuanian Ministry of Economy.

The event, ‘Clustering: The Window to Global Competitiveness’ was held on the 11th November 2011 at Ministry of Economy headquarters in Vilnius, Lithuania and was attended by leading representatives from Lithuania’s Parliament and Ministry of Culture.

Kevin McManus said: “Lithuania has been independent for 20 years now and they understand the incredible economic potential that creative industries can have. They were especially interested in how Liverpool’s creative industries have developed and the economic impact of its clusters such as the Baltic Creative area and the Liverpool Science and Innovation parks.”

Kevin also addressed how cities like Liverpool have successfully competed for distinctions including European Capital of Culture 2008, UNESCO City of Music as well as the challenges that creative businesses are facing.

He added: “Liverpool has always been good at turning its creativity into profit. I advised attendees with creative talent on how to seek support or bring in partners with business acumen to help them use their ideas and talent to create money.”

During his two day visit Kevin also spoke with young creative entrepreneurs at a British Council networking dinner and gave a lecture to more than 100 European Humanities University students and academics.
