Liverpool hotel makes top 25

A Liverpool hotel has made it into the top 25 UK hotels for the first time.

base2stay on Seel Street came 16th in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for the UK’s best hotels. The awards are based on guest reviews which are used to rank hotels nationwide on areas including service and room quality.

It is the first time any hotel in Liverpool has made the top 25 rankings for the best hotels in the UK.

The hotel, which opened in autumn 2010, has also been awarded the accolade of 12th trendiest hotel in the UK – news which follows last year’s success for the brand when it’s sister hotel in Kensington was named the Best Family Hotel in London by TripAdvisor in its 2011 Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Commenting on the awards, general manager of base2stay Liverpool Julie Pickford, said: “The increasing number of people using online and social sites to inform their choices when visiting cities in the UK has placed an ever increasing importance on reviews and we are delighted to be ranked so highly, based purely on what our guests think.

“It is an honour to be recognised by TripAdvisor as a 2012 Travellers’ Choice award-winning hotel. Our innovative hotel concept, based around quality, value and sustainability with guest service at the core, has proved really popular and it’s fantastic that this has led us to be considered one of the UK’s best and trendiest hotels.”

base2stay Liverpool’s £14m redevelopment transformed an 1850s industrial building, which had seen use as a printworks, beeswax factory and cork warehouse, into a 106-room, four-star boutique hotel, retaining many of the original features.

Its completion marked a major milestone in the regeneration of the city’s Bohemian RopeWalks design and entertainment quarter, close to the highly acclaimed Alma De Cuba bar and restaurant. The increasing popularity of the area was recognised late last year when Seel Street, where the hotel is situated, was named the fourth hippest street in the UK in a Google Street Award.

Since its year as European Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool has grown an international reputation as a short-stay destination, and visitor numbers to the city have soared.

Word spread quickly about the city’s world-class museums, galleries and football as well as its famous nightlife ranked by TripAdvisor as the best in the UK late last year – another accolade for the city voted the friendliest in Britain by Conde Nast readers in 2011.

base2stay announced recently that it has started construction of the group’s third hotel, which is set to open in 2013 in the heart of Soho in London. The £25m project involves the reconstruction of a building on Carlisle Street, linking through to a 19th Century warehouse in St Anne’s Court, which will be renovated as part of the hotel.

It is set to be the same concept as the Liverpool and Kensington hotels with a mini-kitchen in every room, in-room on-screen directories to help guests shop or order in, and exclusive discounts at many surrounding restaurants, cafes and bars. The base2stay brand is centred on sustainability, service and value and allows guests to decide where and how they want to spend their money, spreading the benefits throughout the local area.

Chief executive of base2stay Robert Nadler, said: “We are delighted to be recognised in such a prestigious international award. Customer satisfaction is the most important thing for any hotel and we hope Soho will continue the base2stay reputation for quality and value by building on the best of what is already on offer at base2stay Liverpool and Kensington.”
