Liverpool Sound City / Thurs 19th – Sat 21st May

Liverpool Sound City is an inspiring and illuminating music, arts and cultural showcase which reaches its fourth year this week. Liverpool, Europe’s 2008 Capital of Culture, has enjoyed a cultural, architectural and societal renaissance which has seen boutique shops and hotels, amazing restaurants and museums all converge and grow in the city in tandem with Liverpool Sound City's own continued evolution.

Liverpool Sound City is set over 30 venues including the iconic St George’s Hall, Bombed Out Church and Cathedral Crypt in the UK’s musical capital.

The festival has just announced a special show with The Kooks at The Bombed Out Church, who join well over 300 bands including Black Lips, Miles Kane, The View, Frank Turner, Jamie XX, Cast, Spank Rock, SBTRKT, Steve Mason, Funeral Party, Wretch 32, Young Knives, Clinic, The Whip, Wave Machines, Set Your Goals, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Marina Gasolina, The Good Natured, Sound of Rum, Pete and the Pirates, Delta Maid, and many, many more.

There's also a full conference with global keynote speakers addressing key issues facing the music industry, including keynotes from Peter Hook, Kevin Cummins, Simon Raymonde and debates from Drowned in Sound, last.fm, SoundCloud, AudioBoo and many more.

2011’s LSC features the 50th anniversary exhibition of the iconic Mersey Beat newspaper, the world film premiere of Kevin Sampson’s Powder, as well as the return of the John Peel World Cup which raises money for the British Heart Foundation.

The Youth Live programming is dedicated to the country’s young people, encouraging the next generation of musicians, producers, technologists and all other facets into the music industry.

David Pichilingi, the festival’s director, said, “Once more we are in Liverpool Sound City week and everyone’s raring to go for our fourth take over of the city. Yet again we have put together a truly inspiring lineup of some of the best new acts around, as well as bringing in some great global headliners to the region.

"With the support of Liverpool Vision, Liverpool City Council, and The Mersey Partnership we have once again created a music, arts and cultural extravaganza which features world film premieres and the 50th anniversary of Mersey Beat along with our annual John Peel World Cup event.

"There’s also the truly global conference which takes place at The Hilton featuring keynote speakers and delegates from all over the world who will be debating the key challenges and fascinating developments around the music and digital technology industry.

"For the music, we are using some of the great city’s most iconic venues, including The Cathedral Crypt, The Bombed Out Church and of course St George’s Hall – don’t forget the Echo’s own show there with Sound of Guns – and over 300 bands will be here from Thursday 19th-Saturday 21st. Anyone coming to Liverpool Sound City will be spoilt for choice by some truly great musicians as we encompass everything from indie to rock through to post-punk action.

"What makes Sound City so amazing and unique is Liverpool itself and the people. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. See you on the dance floor!”
