Liverpool’s New Representative in China
Liverpool Vision has appointed a new representative in Shanghai as it seeks to build on the city’s World Expo legacy and find new opportunities for trade and investment across China.
Helen Wang, who was previously a senior inward investment officer with UKTI in Shanghai, will work closely with her former colleagues and the China-Britain Business Council, based in the city.
Ms Wang is a finance and investment graduate (Wuhan University (BA) and Exeter University (MA)), who has worked for both the British and Dutch governments for more than seven years, attracting Chinese investments and promoting bilateral trade.
Helen also has experience in developing a strategic approach to promoting the UK through previous roles working on behalf of Advantage West Midlands and the City of Amsterdam.
Ailsa Horne, Head of Investment and International at Liverpool Vision, said: “Helen has huge experience in attracting Chinese investment and has an extensive range of contacts, particularly in Shanghai government and business circles and in Yangtze River delta area/ Pearl River delta area, Beijing, Shandong and Hubei province.
“She has well established networks and marketing and research skills that will support Liverpool’s activities in Shanghai and beyond and has developed a comprehensive understanding of British Business as well as the decision-making process of Chinese outbound investment.
“Her main responsibility is to continue to build our links in Shanghai but her role is also to pursue potential friendships we could develop in other parts of China.”
One of Helen’s first tasks is to co-ordinate a City of Liverpool delegation visit this month, led by Cllr Nick Small, cabinet member for employment enterprise and skills, to Shanghai and the South West China city of Nanning.
Cllr Small said: “Helen’s appointment is part of a second phase mission to China. Since we opened our Shanghai office in 2007, Liverpool has made significant inroads and Helen’s expertise and local knowledge will help us, not only to refresh the Memorandum Of Understanding between Liverpool and Shanghai, but to extend Liverpool’s reach to other second and third tier cities.”
