Marco Pierre White signs up to Liverpool Food and Drink Festival 2011

Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White is to appear at Liverpool Food and Drink Festival for the second time.

The Hell’s Kitchen star, dubbed the Godfather of modern cooking, will join a host of Britain’s best chefs at the annual Sefton park extravaganza.

MasterChef’s John Torode and Birkenhead-born TV star Simon Rimmer will also share their recipe secrets at the September event, now in its fourth year.

The return of the original Michelin-starred White will help to enthral the festival’s estimated 30,000 visitors.

White said: “The last time I attended Liverpool Food and Drink Festival, in 2009, everyone was so welcoming and the food and drink on offer was to an extremely high standard.

“I liked the fact that some people, who may not have the opportunity to go to some of the restaurants on a regular basis, were able to head to Sefton Park and try the food that they serve.

“I’m delighted to be attending once again and the great thing about events like this is that they inspire people to cook and to eat well.”

White, famous for reducing a young Gordon Ramsey to tears in a kitchen feud, will be signing copies of his books, speaking to local chefs and passing his verdict on the cuisine on offer. His new Governor beer, brewed by JW Lees, will also be on offer.

Aughton restaurant The Swan Inn, owned by the chef, will also be exhibiting at the festival.

Earlier this month, White launched his latest Steakhouse restaurant in the new Hotel Indigo, in the city centre.

Denise Harris, director of organisers SK Events, said: “It is fantastic that Marco wants to return and he has become a great friend of the festival. He’s currently playing such a big role within the city’s food and drink sector, so it seems very fitting that he is involved once again.”

Dishes from Merseyside’s finest bars, hotels and restaurants will be available to sample at the festival, which takes place on September 3 and 4.

The event also features live music, celebrity cooking demonstrations and a children’s interactive area.
