Mathew Street Festival reveals Band Together deals on offer to revellers

More than 15 top restaurants, bars, and shops have signed up to “Band Together” to help fund the annual Mathew Street festival.

A range of venues and stores are offering discounts to music fans who buy a £3 wrist band to help fund the event.

The black and gold bands give festival-goers discounts at city retailers, bars and restaurants on August 28 and 29, when 200,000 music fans will descend on the city centre.

Cafe Rouge at the Metquarter and La Tasca at Queens Square are offering 25% off bills at their restaurants, while Lunya in Liverpool One is offering 20% off.

Dawsons Music in Ranelagh Street has agreed to give wrist band holders 10% off music accessories and Beatles-related books and souvenirs.

Special rates are also being given on a range of Beatles-related guitars and amps.

In total there are 18 offers.

The two-day festival costs £750,000 to stage and city taxpayers will pick up the majority of the bill.

The cash-strapped council is having to cut £50m from its budget next year and needs revellers to show how much they value the festival by dipping into their pockets.

The Cavern has already showed its support by buying 1,000 to hand out to visitors to the famous venue.

Dawsons Music manager Kingsley Rich said “We think the Band Together concept is a great idea. We thought we’d enter into the spirit of things by offering some great deals on brands that The Beatles used, such as Gretsch and Epiphone guitars, and Vox amps. We will also be offering special discounts on accessories and our range of Beatles music books.

“And it makes sense to encourage more people in this great music city to pick up an instrument and show off their talent.”

Neil Peterson, city council head of international and commercial relations, said: “It’s a win win really, £3 is the price of a pint. It will help the city offset the costs and in exchange a wide range of discounts are available, and businesses too benefit because they will increase footfall.”

Marston’s Brewery, which is sponsoring the Superlambanana stage, is running an online competition for bands.

Bands should upload their videos via the website www.marstonsepa.co.uk/.

The Band Together bands can be bought at www.mathewsteretfestival.org,  and the 08 Place and Liverpool One information centre.
