Museums Association Conference to return to ACC Liverpool
ACC Liverpool, home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, has announced the return of the Museums Association for its annual conference and exhibition, set to be the biggest of its kind in Europe.
The event will head to Liverpool for the second time on November 11-12 2013, bringing along 500 delegates.
David Fleming, director of National Museums Liverpool and Museums Association board member, worked closely with ACC Liverpool to help bring the event to the city.
He said: “Liverpool is the obvious choice to hold the prestigious Annual Conference of the Museums Association in 2013. Not only is National Museums Liverpool based here, with a group of outstanding, world-class venues, but the city now has a world-class convention centre, as well as great shops, hotels and restaurants.”
The Museum Association’s annual conference and exhibition rotates each year, with other locations including Brighton in 2011 and Edinburgh in 2012.
Sharon Heal, head of publications and events at the Museums Association, said: “We had a really successful conference at ACC Liverpool four years ago and our delegates and visitors will be keen to see the new Museum of Liverpool, which opened last year.
“This, together with existing attractions such as the International Slavery Museum, Merseyside Maritime Museum, Tate Liverpool and the recently relocated Open Eye Gallery, provides a fantastic package for our delegates.”
Kerrin MacPhie, director of sales at ACC Liverpool, added: “The Museums Association was impressed by our proximity to the city’s museums when delegates first visited in 2008 and we received extremely positive feedback.
“Since then Liverpool has continued to build on this heritage with the opening of the Museum of Liverpool and the relocation of the Open Eye Gallery, all just a stone’s throw from ACC Liverpool.
“This conference reaffirms that Liverpool is well and truly on the map with our collection of museums and galleries – the largest outside of London. We look forward to showcasing our city and our venue to delegates from across the UK.”
