Range Rover Evoque launched at Tate Liverpool

Range Rover Evoque launched at Tate Liverpool

Eager buyers on the Range Rover Evoque waiting list got a taste of what they will soon be driving at a special launch at Tate Liverpool.

The first of the already award-winning 4X4s will roll off the production line at Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood plant in the next few days.

Managing director of Land Rover, Colin Green, said the Tate’s Albert Dock gallery was chosen because of its reputation for showcasing “great design”, a central factor in the Evoque’s appeal.

The first batches of the Merseyside-built cars will be shipped to dealerships across Britain in the next few days.

This will be followed by overseas shipments.

Mr Green said: “It is great to be in Tate Liverpool, it is wonderful to be in a place that is here for great art and design.

“It is the perfect setting for the Evoque, which is an outstandingly stylish vehicle.

“It is also great to be in Liverpool, the symbolic nature of Liverpool is strong.

“We have been here the last five or six weeks with the world’s press – China, Japan, the USA– and we have had so much tremendous support from the city.

“This is where the Evoque is made, we are tremendously proud of that.

“The factory is outstanding.”

The company revealed in March that Liverpool would be the star of its worldwide media launch of the 4X4.

It is the first time the city has hosted such a prestigious event, with almost 1,000 motoring journalists visiting the city region to give the car a test drive.

Last night’s event was part of the UK-wide launch of the 4X4.

Similar events were planned across the country to give buyers a taste of their purchase.

The Halewood factory is building up its production currently to get as many vehicles made as possible to meet demand. It is close to full capacity, but Mr Green said this process could not be rushed as quality needed to be maintained. He added: “We think the Evoque is going to be a huge British success.”

Land Rover management last night revealed 120 Evoques had been bought in Liverpool alone, and enough orders have been put in worldwide to keep the Halewood factory busy until March.

Gareth Williams, managing director of car dealerships Hatfields Land Rover, told buyers at the launch: “There is a massive worldwide demand for these cars, but we will do our very best to ensure you get the cars as soon as you can.

“It is a great bit of kit, it’s fabulous.

“I know you will all enjoy it.”
