Ropewalks praised at national architecture awards
The city’s Ropewalks area has been praised at a nationwide awards ceremony celebrating cities that have worked hard to preserve their fine Georgian architecture.
Judges of the competition, run by the Georgian Group, were impressed by the way the area around Seel Street has been saved from decay and given a new lease of life.
The judging panel included leading architectural historians and architecture critic Jonathan Glancey.
Liverpool Vision’s Area Investment Manager, Matt Biagetti said: “Ropewalks has developed considerably during the past decade, but in a way that has respected and renovated historically significant buildings. This award recognises that.
“The Ropewalks area is an important historic quarter of the city centre, with a large collection of historic maritime buildings, it is closely related to the original docks. The area has a growing, vibrant and vital community.”
Whilst the transformation of Ropewalks has been substantial Liverpool Vision is keen to see the area developed further. Matt Biagetti said:
“Liverpool Vision, the City Council and stakeholders are committed to continuing the regeneration of Ropewalks and promoting the area as a creative, alternative and vibrant place.”
