Businesses choose Liverpool for its people skills, its commercial acumen, and its quality of life. The city now provides 209,000 jobs across 12,317 workplaces. The city centre is home to 2,400 businesses and 75,000 jobs (Source: Liverpool Strategic Employment Partnership 2002).

With a population of 467,000, the city sits at the centre of a large conurbation with 1.8 million people within 30 minutes and 6 million within 1 hours distance.

Liverpool is a University City with particular strength in languages, engineering, business, ICT and life sciences. The University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) have world class research status in many subjects and courses of the highest calibre. Liverpool Hope College is well known for its teaching courses and there are a wide range of further education colleges across the city.

There are a range of education and training schemes to upskill the pool of talent that is actively seeking employment in the city including Jobs Education and Training Centres and the People Pool.

The Partnership for Learning facility based in Speke is a unique public-private sector project which provides specialist training courses for a range of sectors including the automotive and pharmaceutical industry.

With a student population of 50,000, the pool of available talent is considerable. Our biggest challenge is creating sufficient business opportunity to meet the needs and aspirations of these people.
