At broad industry level the distribution of jobs across sectors is similar to the National average with the exception of Liverpool's employment in the construction and manufacturing sectors. These are proportionally lower than the North West and GB averages. Employment in Public administration, education and health is higher than both the GB and North West averages and constitutes an important employment industry for the city (37.5% of all Liverpool jobs are in this sector). Employment in banking, finance and insurance and in distribution, hotels and restaurants is also significant. Combined these three areas account for nearly 80% of Liverpool employment.
