City Centre Living is an important component of the regeneration of Liverpool city centre and the creation of a 'Premier European City'. City living features in the Liverpool First - Community Strategy (2002 - 2005), and it supports one of Liverpool City Council's key regeneration objectives - to re-populate the City. It is also one of the strategic goals of the Liverpool City Centre Strategic Regeneration Framework, "to create a sustainable and vibrant city centre that supports a quality lifestyle attractive to inward investors and potential residents"
As part of the work around City Centre Living, the City Council works with a number of partners to consider & develop the residential capacity of the city centre. This partnership programme involves the following elements:-
• Dynamics of the existing residential market
• Measures required to sustain the residential sector in
Liverpool City Centre and maximise growth potential
• Demand for new build and refurbished residential accommodation
taking into account supply, market sector, unit size and tenure
• Demand and capacity in all sectors over a 2, 5 and 10 year timeframe
• Demand for support services, necessary to support residential development
• Impact of the city centre dynamics on large scale residential
developments being brought forward on the edge of the city centre such as
Kings Waterfront and Central Docks
• Impact of the city centre market on demand and value of residential property
within the city fringe and the inner core housing areas
• Changes that may be required to planning policy to support the residential sector
